Nikki Bensch
2019 Volunteer of the Year, Canberra Region

Nikki Bensch was awarded the 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award at the 2019 Volunteering Awards, Canberra Region. For the past four years Nikki has been volunteering with Share the Dignity as the ACT Team Leader. Nikki was a founding volunteer of the ACT Share the Dignity Team in 2015, and since then has been an inspirational role model to the team of volunteers she leads.

Share the Dignity supports women and girls in need in the ACT and across the nation, providing them with essential sanitary items and other care. Share the Dignity supports women in the ACT that may be experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or otherwise suffering financial hardship

Over the last four years Nikki has coordinated three campaign drives and events that occur annually for the charity. This includes coordinating team members to pick up vital goods that have been donated and delivering them to partnering charities; liaising with businesses that want to donate to Share the Dignity; and representing the ACT at a national level with the charity.

In 2018 Nikki and her team collected 14,995 sanitary items and 5,203 handbags for women and girls in the Canberra Region who need support.

Nikki manages her volunteering role, outside of working full time as a lawyer. Under Nikki’s leadership the ACT Team of Share the Dignity has increased its volunteers and the number of items collected each year – a true indication of Nikki’s dedication and hard work.

Thank you Nikki, for leading a team of inspiring people and creating such a positive impact on the world of women and girls in the Canberra Region.
